Visitor Asks: 'Where Does The
Bible Say Anyone Is Going To Heaven?'

By David J. Stewart | February 2008

I recently received a letter from a lady, stating:

Please tell me where in the Bible that it says anyone is going to Heaven. Jesus never told anyone they would ' go to Heaven.' He did teach about the coming Kingdom of GOD ( no, I am not now, nor ever have been, a Jehovah's Witness). He told the thief on the cross that he would be in paradise with HIM- but it was not called 'Heaven'. Zechariah 14 makes plain that the saints are to be priests (teachers) and rule and reign with Christ. John, ( in Revelation) saw New Jerusalem 'come down' I find no proof whatsoever in The Holy Scriptures that anyone was promised to 'go to Heaven'. Please take this as a sincere question and know that as a seeker of Truth, I have researched this for years. Thank you in advance for your response.

Here is my Biblical response:

In Matthew 5:16 we read... "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."  God the Father is in Heaven.

In Luke 6:23 Jesus said, "Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets."  The believer's reward is in Heaven.

In Ephesians 3:15 we read about the family in Heaven... "Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named."

In John 14:1-3 Jesus comforted His disciples by saying...

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Jesus promised to prepare A PLACE for those who believe on Him, and has promised to come and receive us to live with Him in that place.

Jesus and the Father are one, so if the Father lives in Heaven, so must the Son.  We read that Jesus sits on the right-hand of the Father (Acts 7:56).  Thus, the Godhead dwells in Heaven.  It is clear to me based on these Scriptures that all believers will be taken to be with the Lord in Heaven, because that is where God abides.  Jesus has promised to come back and receive us unto Himself, so that we may be where He is.  What a precious truth to ponder.

I hope this helps a bit...

kindest regards,
David
