The Giving Of The Crown Of Life

James 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

The Bible teaches there are five different crown which the believer can receive in Heaven...

  1. THE INCORRUPTIBLE CROWN - for those who “run a good race” in the Christian life. 1st Corinthians 9:25, “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.”

  2. THE SOUL-WINNER'S CROWN - to people who labored to save souls from the fires of Hell. 1st Thessalonians 2:19, “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?”

  3. THE CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS - for those who look for and love Christ's return. 2nd Timothy 4:8, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

  4. THE CROWN OF LIFE - for people who endure suffering, knowing there is a better life in the world to come. James 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

  5. THE CROWN OF GLORY - for those who faithfully teach and preach God's Word. 1st Peter 5:4, “And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.”

Of them all, the crown that I think of the most is the crown of life, because of my health afflictions. This crown will be given to every believer who endures adversities and those with permanent afflictions.

I had a blood test today to find out why I've had so much arthritis-like pain in my fingers over the past 9-months. Recent x-rays of my hands didn't reveal anything wrong. I had my second neck surgery 2-years ago in April of 2010, which made me worse, not only leaving me with the original toothache-like neck pain and chronic stiffness in my neck, but now I have acute peripheral neuropathy (burning, tingling and puffiness in my arms and to a lesser extent my legs). All of these health afflictions make me miserable, understandably.

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not complaining. God has been good to me. I love God and am grateful for all that I have (and don't have). We are the most blessed generation in history, yet we complain the most. The Bible says that God has reserved the hottest places in Hell for unsaved people who complain, ingrates. If God sends unsaved ingrates to the hottest parts of Hell, then you can be assured that Christians who complain will receive the least rewards. God is so good! We live in the most blessed nation on the face of the earth and mankind. Yet, everywhere we turn people are griping and complaining. Luke 6:35 says God is good even to the unthankful and the evil (and God sure is good to all). Yet, SHAKIRA says God is cruel and unfair.

Yet, I know that there is a better life in the world to come. This one thought keeps me going. I have the wonderful promises of God to claim in the Bible. My name is written in Heaven (Luke 10:20). God has promised me a new body, fashioned unto the body of the Lord Himself (Philippians 3:21). God has promised to wipe away all tears and forever take away all pain (Revelation 21:4). God has promised never to leave nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). God has promised me a home in Heaven (John 14:1-3) and a heavenly family (Ephesians 3:15). God has promised I will rejoice when He returns, and no man will take away my joy (John 16:22). God has promised me all things (Romans 8:32).

We all deserve to go to Hell, yet Christ in His love wants us to reign with Him in eternity. A crown is for a ruler. I believe that our accomplishments for the Lord here on earth will determine our place of leadership in Christ's Millennial kingdom when we reign with the Lord. 2nd Timothy 2:12, “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us.” 1st Corinthians 6:3, “Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?” Those Christians who never share the gospel, don't try to live right, don't care if the Lord returns, complain all the time, and never lift a finger for God; they will not receive any crowns at the Judgment Seat of Christ. 1st Corinthians 3:15, “If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

1st Corinthians 11:31, “For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.” If we take care of the problem, then God doesn't have to. 1st Thessalonians 4:6 warns that God will avenge any brother who is defrauded by another. Romans 12:19 says don't avenge yourself, for God has promised to recompense all believers good for good and evil for evil. Romans 14:12-14 teaches that we all must give account to God. 2nd Corinthians 5:9-11 teaches that at the Judgment Seat of Christ every Christian will give account for the good and bad done in our earthly body. These Scriptures and many more teach that Christians will be judged according to their works.

Mind you, this is not speaking of salvation. There's nothing any man can do to make things right concerning salvation. Jesus Christ died, was buried and rose again (1st Corinthians 15:1-4), sacrificing His precious blood to wash away our sins (1st Peter 1:18-19). Apart from Christ's blood sacrifice, there is no other sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 10:26). If one sins by rejecting Christ after hearing the gospel, then there is no other way to Heaven. Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to Heaven!

As believers, there are times when we cannot patch things up. There are times when we cannot undo the damage done, the pain caused, the loss and the broken hearts and lives. This is why Christ went to the cross, so He could make everything right. Amen! The blood of Jesus Christ brings us nigh unto God, whereas our sins had separated us from God. Thank God for the blood of Jesus that cleanseth our sins away (1st John 1:7).

Don't confuse the judgment of God at The Great White Throne Of Judgment against unsaved sinners who die in their sins (Revelation 20:11-15; 2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9; John 8:24) with the judgment of God at The Judgment Seat Of Christ against saved believers who die in the Lord (2nd Corinthians 5:9-11; Colossians 3:25; Revelation 14:13).

You can liken The Great White Throne Of Judgment to criminal court; and The Judgment Seat Of Christ to civil court. In criminal court, a person is punished with prison if convicted; whereas in civil court a person suffers financial loss, but no prison. The unsaved will be sentenced and cast into the Lake of Fire. The unbelieving are already condemned (John 3:18). John 3:18-19, “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ and walk AFTER the Spirit. Some people corrupt the Scriptures and misinterpret Romans 8:1, claiming that “walking after the Spirit” refers to Lordship Salvation. It does not!

What a wonderful thought to know that those who love the Lord will be given crowns to cast at our Savior's feet, and then we will reign with Jesus for a thousand years during the Millennium. And then at the end of the ages, Christ (the Godhead manifest in the flesh, 1st Timothy 3:16 - King James Bible) will return all glory unto the Father that the Godhead may be whole. Colossians 2:9, “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” 1st Corinthians 15:28, “And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.” The Greek word for both occurrences of “all” in 1st Corinthians 15:28 is pas, which means “whole.” Colossians 2:2 refers to the Godhead as “the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.”

Thankfully we don't have to understand God to be saved, we just need to believe (trust) upon His only begotten Son Who died, was buried and rose again three days later for our sins (1st Corinthians 15:1-4; John 20:31).
