Psalm 145:9, “The LORD is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works.”
We are so blessed by God in these modern times. I was thinking this week about iceboxes 100 years ago. They didn't have refrigerators back then. Literally, you placed an order for a block of ice that was delivered once a week to your home. It was a large and heavy block of ice that went into the bottom of your icebox that kept your foods cool throughout the week. The less you opened your insulated icebox, the longer the ice lasted. I have seen photos of workmen cutting blocks of ice out of Lake Michigan during the winter months, to be hauled to people's homes for their refrigerators. Today, we just plug in an electrical cord and we're good to go. We are so blessed to have refrigerators that don't require heavy, melting, blocks of ice.
Back two centuries ago medical anesthesia didn't exist. In fact, even 160-years ago during the Civil War they didn't have anesthesia. If you were a wounded soldier and needed to have an arm or leg amputated, then you were in a bad spot. They literally gave you a bottle of whiskey and told you to get drunk. Then they'd hit you with a big board to knock you out.
