Only a Sinner Saved by Grace

By David J. Stewart

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." —Ephesians 2:8,9

Many people have trouble with is the issue of sin.  So many people think God won't accept them because they're too sinful.  I've witnessed to countless people who sincerely thought they were beyond hope.

The truth is that we are all undeserving sinners, guilty of committing sin against God.  No one deserves Heaven.  Other than Jesus Christ (2nd Corinthians 5:21), there's not a human being without sin (Romans 3:23).  We're all a bunch of dirty, rotten sinners, justly deserving of Hellfire.

Thankfully, the Word of God teaches that Jesus came into the world to save sinners; not to condemn us (John 3:17).  The Law of God condemns all mankind (Romans 3:19); but Jesus Christ came to pay for our sins with His precious blood (1st Peter 1:18,19) to freely offer us eternal life (Revelation 22:17).

No one is beyond hope... "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:18).  God will forgive anybody who seeks forgiveness... "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37).

Only the Ungodly Can Be Justified

Romans 4:5 states: "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."  God doesn't justify those who are conceited in their self-righteousness (Luke 18:10-14).  The only type of person that can be saved is an ungodly sinner.  So rest assured my friend that you can be saved, no matter how sinful you may be.

The Bible wonderfully states in Romans 5:8... "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."  Jesus died for us WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS!  Christ died for ALL MEN... "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world" (1st John 2:2).  Jesus paid the debt of sin for all humanity.  Thus, eternal life is freely offered as a gift from God (Romans 6:23), which we simply need to receive by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 10:43; 16:30,31).

Jesus said in Luke 5:32, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Romans 10:3,4 warns of those who seek to establish their own self-righteousness; having refused to submit themselves unto the righteousness of God, which comes only by faith in Christ Jesus.  If you realize that you're a horrible sinner, guilty of violating God's Law, and desire to be forgiven of your sins, then you simply need to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, to forgive your sins and save you soul from Hellfire.

The Bible does NOT require a person to forsake their sins to be saved.  For if such were the case, then we would be expecting God to justify our self-righteousness.  Isaiah 64:6 plainly states that all of our self-righteousness is worthless filth to God.  The Bible teaches in Romans 4:5 that Jesus only justifies the UNGODLY.  So if you feel helpless, undeserving, and beyond hope because of the horrible sins in your life... Congratulations!!! ... You are exactly the type of person that Jesus justifies if you'll simply trust Him as your personal Savior to forgive your sins.  God is not looking for the arrogant self-righteous or religious crowd; but rather, for humble sinners who have messed up their lives and know it... "But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick" (Matthew 9:12).

Every believer is and always will be a sinner saved by God's grace.  There won't be any self-made Christians in Heaven.  We all deserve to go to Hell forever to pay for our own wickedness.  Thankfully, Jesus paid a debt that He did not owe; because we owed a debt that we could not pay.  What a Wonderful Savior!  No matter what sins you've committed, or how wicked you may think you are, Jesus will save your soul if you'll trust Him alone for salvation... "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness" (Romans 4:5).

"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins." —Acts 10:43
