Loving Jesus More Than Family
By David J. Stewart
Matthew 10:36-38, "And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me."
The Bible plainly teaches that we ought to love Jesus more than our own family, spouse or friends. Jesus is God, and we ought to love God more than anyone. That's what it really comes down to in life... who do you love the most?
Many people love themselves more than anyone else, as foretold in 2nd Timothy 3:1 in the Last Days. People have become so selfish in America. Hardly anyone loves God enough to take a stand for what's right, even if it means going against their own friends, spouse, family and loved ones. Most people just go along to get along. This is sinful. The Bible says such people are not worthy of Jesus, because they are ashamed to follow after Him.
I know a professed Christian man who tells everyone he used to be a Baptist, but converted to Catholicism to please his wife. He now goes to the Catholic Church every Saturday night and bows in ritual so-called prayer. When he's around me he calls himself a "Baptlic," i.e., half-Baptist and half-Catholic. I don't criticize him, for that is not my place to judge; but I won't budge on my convictions that the Catholic Church is evil to the core, and he knows it. I've explained to him that the Catholic Church is the enemy of God, leading billions of souls into the lake of Fire. Sadly, he just won't go against his wife. He doesn't love Jesus as much as his unsaved wife. I can only pray for him.
Every member of the Church mumbles the same memorized prayers they learned out of some Catholic prayer book. I have bad news for you friend if you are Catholic, those aren't real prayers. Those are religious recitals, "vain repetitions" that greatly displease God. Matthew 6:7, “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do...”
When people attend the Catholic Church, they don't want anyone praying a sincere prayer to a real God. Rather, they want to simultaneously chant the same vain repetitions. It is religion at its best, and a paved road to Hell. I don't condemn the man who became a Catholic to please his wife, for the Bible condemns all of us as guilty, hell-deserving sinners; but the sad fact is that he loves his wife more than Jesus. I've tried to open his eyes on numerous occasions with the truth of God's Word, but his wife controls him, like a horse being led by the reigns. His wife's family is staunch Catholic, and she'll die in her sins a Catholic. I say this with sadness, but it is her choice. The Catholic Church is straight out of the pits of Hell.
