Man Says He Doesn't Feel Guilty When Sinning,
Cannot Settle Assurance of God's Salvation

By David J. Stewart | September 2018

Ecclesiastes 8:12, “Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him.”

A web visitor wrote to me numerous times, telling me that he doesn't feel saved because of the sins he is committing. Here is some of our correspondence. To begin, here is what he asked me (typos are his)...

Hello, i think i asked this already but when i sin, i don’t feel bad and i don’t feel the Holy Ghost. I know all i have to do is to believe on Him to be saved, but i feel like i should get a heart wrenching conviction. So I’m doubting im saved.

Here was my Biblical reply...

Hey ******,

Salvation is not based upon feelings, but upon God's promise to save them that believe (1st Corinthians 1:21). The more you live in the holy Scriptures and listen to Bible-preaching, the more God will work in your heart. A lot of people don't feel any conviction, so they live in sin, and treasure up God's wrath against them self for judgment day. ...

Ecclesiastes 11:9, "Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment."

I highly recommend listening to sermons by Pastor Jack Hyles...

Kindest regards,

Here was his response...

That’s true but I’m afraid that the Lord isn’t chastising me. Because i don’t want to be a bastard child. So i try to believe on Him and ask him to save me just in case. I don’t feel that bad until afterwards not during the sin. I just want to believe and be chastised. I know it’s weird but still.

Here is my response...

Hey ******,

Don't worry, just keep living in sin, and if you are a true child of God, He will make you wish you've never been born. I say that kindly, not to be mean. Sin thrills and then it kills. Sin fascinates and then it assassinates. God knows exactly how to discipline His children. It might not happen for a couple years, but it will happen! Hebrews 12:6-8 teaches that if you can live in sin without conviction and chastisement from God, you need to get saved. As one preacher said, "If you can sin and win, you're not in!" I've never been able to sin as a Christian, even when I knew I was doing wrong, without at least knowing in my heart of hearts that God was not pleased with me. And as time progressed, things got worse until I decided the sin wasn't worth it, and I repented and walked close with the Lord, which is where I am now. ...

Ecclesiastes 8:12, "Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him."

Only you can determine if you are saved or not. Paul said in Romans 7:13 that God's Law (i.e., the Word of God) made his sin "exceedingly sinful." Television does the exact opposite, making sin acceptable and non-offensive, diminishing the awfulness of sin. I recommend that you get into the King James Bible, every day, and search the Scriptures. Better yet, listen to Alexander Scourby read the Scriptures, and it will change you. You must stand before God one day and give account for your works (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14), words (Matthew 12:36) and even thoughts (Proverbs 24:12). You ought to fear God, as I do (Hebrews 10:31). Even Christians will face God's "terror" at the Judgment Seat of Christ, who lived worldly lives and didn't try to win souls to Christ. In Psalms 6:1 David pleaded with God not to chastise him is the Lord's "hot displeasure."

If you don't fear God, then you should. If you don't fear God, then it is only because you lack faith in the Word of God, which warns that you will one day in eternity be held accountable by God for your life here on earth (Romans 14:10-12; 1st Thessalonians 4:6; James 4:12; Romans 12:19-21). Nobody ever gets away with anything. The Word of God instills a fear of God. It is clear to me that you lack a working knowledge of the Scriptures, either that, or you lack faith in the Scriptures, knowing that you will be judged by your Creator in eternity. I realize that, and it compels me day by day to stay away from sin as much as possible, so I will have as little to explain as possible at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2nd Corinthians 5:9-11).

Of course, I have no true righteousness of my own. My sole faith for forgiveness of sins and eternal life rests in the precious redeeming blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, who was crucified on the cross and became my sin payment. He was buried and 72 hours later He resurrected physically from the dead, and is alive today seated on the right-hand of the Father in Heaven. My faith rests alone in the Good News of Christ crucified, buried and risen for my sins!

You ought to spend time thinking about what Jesus did for you ******. He was spit upon, mocked, beaten beyond human recognition, stripped naked in public and shamed, crucified to a cross. Jesus never sinned, not even once. A perfect man, the Lamb of God, became as sin and died a horrible criminal's death in your place and mine, so that we could be made the righteousness of God through faith in Him (2nd Corinthians 5:21). That's a great Savior and God!!! If you'll spend time thinking about what Jesus did for you my friend, then it will cause you to appreciate His sacrifice, and compel you to live right to please Him, being holy as He is holy. If you can sin and it doesn't bother you, it just evidences that you don't fully grasp (or don't care) what Christ has done to redeem your spirit, soul and body from eternal damnation in the fires of Hell.

Kindest regards

From reading his e-mails (and there were numerous others before these), it almost seems like he is toying with me. I do get time-wasters like that once in a while. Albeit, due to our personality differences as human beings, I am very careful never to assume that someone is messing with me, because you just never know. I once had a man in the Caribbean islands write a love letter to me, similar to the Song of Solomon. At first I thought it was a prank and he was mocking me, but then as I read his words I realized that he simply has a loving and expressive heart toward his Christian brother. So I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, unless it is obvious that they are mocking the truth. I have never claimed to have all the answers, but I have been saved since 1980. That's 38 years! Wow, where did the time go. The Holy Spirit has taught me a thing or two during that time. I love helping people, when I can, as much as I can, wherever I can, in the Lord. You are loved dear reader and I am glad you are here. Thank you for reading this!

NOBODY IS LAUGHING IN HELL!!!

Did you know that you don't have to ask Jesus to save you? God has already told you how to be saved, that is, by simply believing that His Son died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and raised up from the dead three days later. Christ raised up from the dead, which means that God the Father accepted His Son's payment for the sins of the world. Christ suffered on the cross so that we wouldn't have to suffer in a literal Hell forever. Amen! You don't have to bow your head to be saved. You don't have to pray. You don't have to do anything except believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, and make that your only hope for Heaven!

Give Me Jesus!
(video sermon by Pastor Danny Castle - You don't want to keep your eye on others, because they'll let you down. They'll hurt you.
And you don't want to keep your eyes on yourself, because you'll feel inadequate, like a loser and a failure. Keep your eyes on Jesus!)

Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith.

God will not save anyone who is trying to be saved, He will only save those who are trusting to be saved.

Religion is man trying to reach God through human effort, but Christianity is
God trying to reach man by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son on the cross.

You know, we need to stand our ground on this issue!!!” —a quote by Pastor Steven Anderson from the awesome MP3 sermon, “Saved By The Word.”

Redeeming The Time

“Nothing in my future can ever affect the salvation that I have... Once you trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are eternally secure!” —Pastor Hank Lindstrom (1940-2008), a quote from the classic MP3 sermon titled, “How Permanent Is Your Salvation?

“Salvation is based upon purely what Jesus Christ has done. And if you've trusted Jesus Christ here, you're saved forever! Nothing in your life, nothing in your death, angels, principalities, nothing—nothing in your future—could ever undo that relationship that has been made when you trusted Jesus Christ as Savior. And there are many people who are confused over this whole thing.”
—Pastor Hank Lindstrom (1940-2008), a quote from the classic MP3 sermon titled, “How Permanent Is Your Salvation?”

“There are many people who name the name of Jesus Christ, who are not saved, because they're trusting in living the Christian life, or in their works, or in some efforts that they're doing, in order to obtain their salvation.”
