Jerry Garcia's False View On Christianity

by David J. Stewart

“It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.” —Ecclesiastes 7:5

Jerry Garcia (1942-1995) is burning in the fires of Hell this very moment, having died in his sins without Jesus Christ on August 9,1995. Jerry Garcia stated in an interview that he didn't believe in a supernatural being...

“I don't believe in a supernatural being.”

My friend, if you don't believe in a supernatural being, then you have denied the Person of God the Father. You have also denied the Person of the Son of God. Jesus Christ is a supernatural being—born by a miraculous virgin birth; lived a sinless life; shed His precious blood; and died, was buried and rose again three days later for our justification. Jerry Garcia said he didn't believe in a supernatural being. My friend, God is a supernatural Being.

The Godhead is composed of the three Persons of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20; Colossians 2:9 - King James Bible). The Godhead may not make good sense to you, but thank God, you only need to trust upon the name of Jesus Christ to have your sins forgiven and have eternal life. Colossians 2:2 refers to the Godhead as “the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.” This is exactly what the Bible teaches. It is ok not to understand how the Godhead (Trinity) works. The Bible calls it a mystery. The important thing is that you come as a guilty sinner to the cross, and believe that Jesus died, was buried and rose again to pay YOUR sin debt. Amen!

There are many false views in the world on what it means to be a Christian. In fact, most people who sincerely profess to be Christians (or followers of Christian beliefs) are as lost as the Devil. They are still in their sins, on their way to Hell to burn in fire and suffer God's wrath for all eternity. Consider the frightening words of 2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9, “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.”

Here is a portion of an interview with Jerry Garcia, clearly showing that Garcia was NOT a born-again Christian...

David: What's your concept of God if you have one?

Jerry: I was raised a Catholic so it's very hard for me to get out of that way of thinking. Fundamentally I'm a Christian in that I believe that to love your enemy is a good idea somehow. Also, I feel that I'm enclosed within a Christian framework so huge that I don't believe it's possible to escape it, it's so much a part of the western point of view. So I admit it, and I also believe that real christianity is okay. I just don't like the exclusivity clause.

But as far as God goes, I think that there is a higher order of intelligence something along the lines of whatever it is that makes the DNA work. Whatever it is that keeps our bodies functioning and our cells changing, the organizing principle - whatever it is that created all these wonderful life-forms that we're surrounded by in its incredible detail.

There's definitely a huge vast wisdom of some kind at work here. Whether it's personal - whether there's a point of view in there, or whether we're the point of view, I think is up for discussion. I don't believe in a supernatural being.

Please note that the word “christianity” has a lowercase in the original article and is not a misspelled. The word should always be capitalized. It seems odd that the only word misspelled is Christianity.

Jerry Garcia grew up Roman Catholic, having churchianity without Christianity. Catholicism is prisonhouse of religion. A demon's favorite activity is to make an unsaved person feel religious. Jerry Garcia's total understanding of Christianity is to love your enemies. My friend, without the cross there can be no salvation. The gospel is defined in 1st Corinthians 15:1-4 as the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is THE GOSPEL (the good news) by which men are saved. Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Salvation comes only by receiving Christ's death, burial and resurrection as payment for our sin debt. Jesus paid it all! Jesus Christ bore our heavy burden of sin, so we could freely inherit his imputed righteousness!

The Bible Teaches That Jesus Christ Is The Only Way To Heaven!

Like so many unsaved people, Jerry Garcia didn't like the idea of Christianity being the ONLY way to salvation. This is further evidence that Jerry Garcia was NOT saved. The Bible teaches that there's ONLY ONE WAY to eternal life and that is through faith in the name of Jesus Christ. Acts 4:10-12 proclaims that there is NO salvation in any name, other than the precious name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to Heaven!

Acts 4:10-12 “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Jerry Garcia says he's a Christian in the fundamental sense of loving your enemies. Folks, loving your enemies is NOT Christianity. Growing up Catholic means you have religion, but that's NOT Christianity. Jerry Garcia is in Hell today if he died with these philosophies. Religion cannot get you to Heaven. Water baptism cannot save! Loving your enemies cannot get you eternal life. You need Behold “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).

Garcia plainly stated that he didn't recognize Christianity as the ONLY way, and his idea of Christianity was merely religious in nature (that of loving one's enemies). Clearly, Jerry Garcia couldn't explain what he had never known. Mr. Garcia went to Hell in his false view of Christianity being a mere religion.

I read the following statement on a website promoting Jerry Garcia's music...

Once in a while you get shown the light-in the
strangest of places if you look at it right!

My friend, you can have THE TRUTH right now! You don't have to stumble across it once in a while. You have the complete Word of God in the Bible. Praise God for His Word that makes sin exceedingly sinful and shows us the way of salvation by faith in Christ Jesus. God is a good God!

The New Age False 'God Of Forces'

Jerry Garcia believes there's “a higher order of intelligence,” but said, “I don't believe in a supernatural being.” If there's not a supernatural being, then the only thing remaining is a life force. This is what the Antichrist will believe when he soon comes...

Daniel 11:38, “But in his estate shall he honour THE GOD OF FORCES: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.”

This is the New Age “force.” Most people remember the popular statement from the blockbuster movie, STAR WARS, saying “May the force be with you.” The New Age teaching of YIN-YANG is that there exists two opposing forces in nature (one masculine and the other feminine). New Agers don't believe in a literal, personal, individual God; but rather, that god is the force of everything in the universe, able to be channeled through yoga and other religious practices. These are demonic doctrines.

The Bible plainly teaches that Jesus is the only way to Heaven (John 14:6). Jerry Garcia said that he believed in “a higher order of intelligence,” but no supernatural being. It's nothing less than a total denial of Biblical Christianity by Jerry Garcia. Like so many celebrities, Garcia chose to be wishy-washy concerning his beliefs, taking a middle-of-the-road position.

If you view god as a spiritual force, or a force in the universe that makes DNA work, then you need to get saved my friend. You are not a Biblical Christian if you view god as a life-force. Being born-again is NOT an experience. Becoming a Christian is NOT a prayer; nor is it turning over a new leaf; nor is it making a commitment; nor is it leaving behind sinful bad habits; nor is it water baptism; nor is it joining a denomination; nor is it ascribing to the philosophy of Christianity. Biblical Salvation is a supernatural miracle of God in response to a person's faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ, that is, that Christ DIED, was BURIED and bodily ROSE again three days later from the dead.

A Little About Jerry Garcia And 'The Grateful Dead'

Jerome John “Jerry” Garcia was the founder and frontman of the legendary band, THE GRATEFUL DEAD (originally called, THE WARLOCKS back in 1965). Clearly, the original band's name reveals their allegiance to Satan, evidenced further by the notoriously strange and bizarre things that happened at Grateful Dead concerts.[1] The band's diehard fans were known as “deadheads.” Fans often spoke-in-tongues, claimed alien abductions and men dressed as women while dancing to Rock 'N' Roll music.

Grateful Dead concerts were infamous for drug use during concert. Marijuana was passed out at concerts and drug use was epidemic, leading to hallucinogenic concerts. During the summer of 1990, keyboardist Brent Mydland died of a drug overdose. Jerry Garcia suffered many heartaches in life, including a drug-induced diabetic attack which put him into a coma for 5-days in 1886.

Having lost the middle finger of his right hand at age 4 (his older brother accidentally cut his finger off while chopping wood), Garcia played guitar better with four fingers than most do with five. Less than a year after losing the segment of his finger, his father died in a drowning accident while fishing along a river. After the father's death, Jerry's mother took over the family tavern selling booze for a living.

Nearly everyone loved Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead because they connected with the fans at live concerts. Most artists are most famous for their studio recordings, but the opposite is true of The Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia's solo career. Unlike many other bands, The Grateful Dead allowed fans to tape and video record everything at all their concerts. This is one main reason why the band is still popular decades later. There's tons of recordings floating around. Oftentimes Jerry performed as a one man band in concert and packed the concert hall. People came from across the country just to attend the band's live concerts. In the sinful world's eyes, Jerry Garcia and his Grateful Dead band were their heroes.

Albeit, sinners can only “enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season (Hebrews 11:25), then comes death and judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Ecclesiastes 12:7 says that upon death “the spirit shall return unto God who gave it,” and then we are judged for every work the Bible says (Ecclesiastes 12:14).

At only age 53, Jerry Garcia died of a heart attack while in a heroine addiction rehab center in California. Garcia's wild and reckless life had finally caught up with him. Garcia had battled drug-addiction for a very long time. Oh, how the Devil always plays with counterfeit money! The Devil's apples all have worms! Satan always shows young people the bright neon lights of Las Vegas, but he never shows you the hospital, the morgue and the prison houses. Satan is a thief and a liar. Don't let the Devil rob you of motherhood. Don't let Satan steal your innocence. Don't let the Devil kill your joy in the Lord. Jerry Garcia died filthy rich and as rich as filth. What a wasted life in Heaven's eyes.

What does it profit a man if he gains so many fans and worldly success, if he splits Hell wide open the moment he dies in his sins without Jesus Christ? Obviously, he profits NOTHING. Ah, but listen my friend, the good news is that Jesus is the Christ Who died, was buried and rose again for our sins. Jesus paid our sin debt with His precious, literal, physical, blood. Romans 5:9, “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
