Judge releases DCF document in Schiavo case
Clearwater, Florida - A court document filed by the Department of Children and Families cites 30 allegations of abuse or neglect in the Terri Schiavo case and seeks to block her husband from allowing her to die while the claims are investigated.
The petition unsealed yesterday seeks a stay of Circuit Judge George Greer's order allowing her husband to have his wife's feeding tube removed starting March 18th.
Michael Schiavo has been engaged in a bitter legal fight to remove the tube, arguing that his wife did not want to be kept alive artificially.
The social service agency says it received "30 detailed allegations of abuse, neglect or exploitation in a 34 page document received by the DCF hotline" February 18th and February 21.
The petition does not name individuals involved in making the abuse report.
Terri Schiavo is at the center of a long-running legal battle between her husband and parents regarding whether she should be kept alive artificially. She suffered severe brain damage 15 years ago when her heart stopped beating for several minutes.
