Christmas or X-mas?

by David J. Stewart

The Christmas holidays are a wonderful time of the year, snow falling, Inspiring music, a spirit of giving, etc.  It just wouldn’t be the same without Christmas.

The word “Christmas” means “Christ” and then “gift."  Hence, the true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s gift to man.  Luke 2:11 says, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord."  Jesus is the Savior, come into the world to save the souls of sinful men.  We are told in Luke 2:13-15 that when Jesus was born, He was worshipped by “a multitude of the heavenly host." Hebrews 1:6 says, “Again, when He bringeth in the first begotten into the world, He Saith, And LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIMWow!  All the angels of heaven came to worship Jesus at His birth.  John said he saw “ten thousand times ten thousand angels” in Revelation 5:11, and then “thousands of thousands."  10,000 times 10,000 is 100,000,000 angels.  Then it would have to be at least 2,000 times 2,000 because John said “thousands of thousands” (plural).  Plural means at least more than one! So 2,000 times 2,000 equals 4,000,000.  Add that to the 100 million and we have 104 million angels.  So we know that at Jesus birth, at least 104,000,000 angels came to worship Jesus because “ALL” the angels worshipped him. Wow!

As amazing is all this is, it is sad to know that many people reject the person of Jesus Christ. To many, Christmas is a nuisance, a dreaded time of the year when the hearts of ignorant people waste their time in worship of a myth or religious rubbish.  To think that 104 million angels would bow down at the feet of Jesus, and yet some people are too stinking proud to bow down before their Creator, Redeemer and God—Jesus Christ! Philippians 2:10 says, “That AT THE NAME OF JESUS EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth (people in hell)."  Every soul in the universe will ultimately bow on their knees before Jesus and confess Him as Lord (The Supreme Authority of the Universe and beyond).  So many multitudes, billions, of people refuse to bow to Christ and acknowledge His Authority as God Almighty. “FOR IN HIM DWELLETH ALL THE FULLNESS OF THE GODHEAD (trinity) BODILY” (Colossians 2:8-9).  Jesus came to earth as “God in the flesh” (I timothy 3:16).  How do you view Christ?

We began this little tract speaking of Christmas and the wonderful time of year that it truly is.  Sadly, some Christ-rejecter in the past decided to remove “Christ” from “Christmas” and it caught on.  Even more sad is that many Christians foolishly write “X-MAS”, not realizing its wicked message.  The message is clearly, "we don’t want Jesus."   “And even as THEY DID NOT LIKE TO RETAIN GOD IN THEIR KNOWLEDGE...” (Romans 1:28).  Now we see “X-MAS” everywhere we look.  This is tragic!  There’s no excuse!  “Thanksgiving” is a 33% bigger word than “Christmas,” and yet no one ever calls it “X-GIVING."  How about “X-DAY” instead of “Independence Day."  How wicked are the hearts of men.  The name of Jesus, or "Christ," should never be obliterated from anything.  Our wicked society, in an attempt to become more "politically correct," has replaced "Christmas" with "The Holiday Season."   Years ago we heard about Christmas on TV, now it's the holiday season instead.  This is not a mere coincidence my friend, this is very much on purpose.  "Santa Claus" is more than just a fun-loving guy that someone thought up--He's a replacement for Jesus.  Oh that people would come to Christ for salvation and forgiveness of sins.  Is it any wonder that the Bible tells us that the whole world lay in wickedness?  "And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness" (1 John 5:19).

Friend, here's how to be saved--

First, you must realize your a sinner (Romans 3:10,23)

Second, you must realize that there is a penalty for those sins, hell-fire (Romans 6:23; Revelation 21:8; Isaiah 64:6)

Thirdly, you must believe that Jesus died on the cross, was buried and rose again after 3 days to pay for your sins (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).  Christ shed His blood on the cross and took that blood to Heaven to apply to the mercy seat in front of the Father (Hebrews 9:14,24).  Jesus' blood sacrifice was acceptable unto God for the sins of humanity (John 3:16).  Thus, eternal; life is a FREE GIFT--Paid for by the Son (Romans 5:15).  Jesus is Almighty God! (1 Timothy 3:16; John 1:1,14).

Fourthly, you don't need to do anything to be saved, simply trust Jesus Christ.  Call upon His name in prayer (Romans 10:13).  He paid a debt which He did not owe, because we owed a debt which we could not pay.  You need not give up anything to be saved friend, except your unbelief.  Repent of your unbelief and turn in faith to the blessed Savior.  Ask Him to forgive all your sins and take you to Heaven when you die.  Make that decision now to rely upon Jesus Christ 100% because of what He did to pay for your sins.  Trust Him whole-heartedly.  Don't include baptism, church membership, communion, good works, etc, etc. (these things will lead you into hell if you trust in them to save you).  Trust only Jesus Christ!!! (John 14:6)   Trust Jesus now!   To learn more of salvation
